Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated is a dedicated non-profit organization serving the South Dade area community since it foundation on December 31, 2004.

 

Historically, Sosyete Koukouy of Miami, Inc. gave birth to Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated. Thus, Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated became an affiliated branch of Sosyete Koukouy of Miami, Inc. However, Sosyete Koukouy of Miami, Inc. excels through it continuous existence with a distinguished reputation serving the Haitian community around the world for over forty years.

 

Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated objective is to promote the Haitian arts, literature, and poetry.  Importantly, Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated will implement an alphabetization program in English language to reach the most unfortunate analphabetic Creole speaking individuals struggling in the American society.

 

Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated, also believes that by helping the Haitians through their struggles they will become rapidly much more productive and successful citizens in our community. Since Creole is the native language spoken by the Haitians, Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated will highly renovate it.

 

Such renovation is to bring a positive change by recognizing that Creole is not just a language for the common Haitians, but viewed as the blood line of all Haitians. Now, Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated is proud to select Jacques Roumain and Virginie Sampeur among the most famous Haitian authors and writers known around the world and present their biography and picture as well.  

 

Jacques Roumain was born in Haiti in 1907. Before Jacques Roumain died in 1944, he received the title as the best writer of the Caribbean.

 

The Governor of Watering-can” or (le Gouverneur de la Rosée) considers being one of his books among the best sellers. In 1964, Jacques Roumain as an authentic Haitian, author of the book titled “the Governor of Watering-can,” or (le Gouverneur de la Rosée) was recognized in Moscow when Tatiana Petrova summarized it to the Soviet students.

 

In 1972, “The Governor of Watering-can” or (le Gouverneur de la Rosée) by Jacques Roumain won a prestigious reward from the UNESCO with fairness and cooperation of Ka, Abdou Anta. In 1977, “The Governor of Watering-can” or (le Gouverneur de la Rosée) by Jacques Roumain was presented by Jack Corzani at Fort-de-France on a special occasion which was realized by “Collection Les Grands Récits Antillais.”

 

In 1989, “The Governor of Watering-can” or (le Gouverneur de la Rosée) by Jacques Roumain was also recognized by ENAG in Algeria Unite de Reghaia and which was presented in collaboration with Collection Literature. In 1997, “The Governor of Watering-can” or (le Gouverneur de la Rosée) by Jacques Roumain was not only summarized but his biography was also presented by Educavision Inc. in alliance with Heritage Collection at Coconut Creek, in Florida.

 

Virginie Sampeur was born in Haiti in 1839. She is the first famous Haitian woman who wrote and published a book. Virginie Sampeur died in 1919. She inspired many women around the world to follow her pathways by becoming a writer. Virginie Sampeur is the author of the book titled: “L’abondonnee.” In this book she expresses a sensational emotion based on her separation and divorce from her Haitian husband Oswald Durand who was also a famous author of several books.

 

Koukouy of Homestead Incorporated is also proud to add the following Haitian authors: Ida Faubert (1883-1969); Cleante Desgrave Valcin (1891-1956), author of: “Fleurs et Pleurs” and “La Blanche Negress.”
